Slow Day

Hello again . . . it's been a slow day.  Have you ever woken up with intentions of being productive and then the day just slips along and you find yourself procrastinating?  Well, that has been today, but seeing as it is only 12:45  I am hoping to make up for lost time in the later part of the day.  I did manage to find more storage space on my computer and take the dog for a long walk and think about pieces I want to make.  I must also be a little honest and mention that I had a nice long breakfast after getting the kids to school and read a bit--that was a real time-sucker!  So, after taking care of computer business, house business, and even defrosting a piece of fish for dinner, I am off to the creative races.  I wonder how many tired cliches I can use today?

But let's talk turkey (3rd cliche of the day):  I have been working on some of those pieces from the 100-day challenge and have combined them with a project idea from Cloth Paper Scissors Magazine.   The result is a nice little set of small mixed media pieces.  Does anyone else out there in the blogosphere also absolutely hate to cut matte board?  I find that no matter how well I measure I am always just a bit off and have to fiddle around with the board to get it just right.   It's kind of like adding the clasp to a necklace or bracelet--truly my least favorite part of the project, but also one of the most important aspects of making a piece look professional.

It's been nice chatting, but now I have to go actually work!

Upcoming Show

Thought I would let you know that I am having a one-person show at Chestnut Hill Chiropractic and Rehabilitation in January and February.  I will be displaying all my wall art.  It's a lovely little office at

180 Wells Avenue #302.
Newton, MA 02459
Their office number is 617.332.5105.

I know these are slow months and it is so cold, but the office is warm, and maybe you will either start early on holiday gifts for next year or find something special for another occasion.  Valentine's Day is coming up after all . . .

Come and check out my work!

DeCordova

Here are images of one of the pieces I dropped off at the deCordova Museum Shop yesterday.  It's called DNA4, as it is the fourth is a series along this design.  I can make it in varying colors and with varying kinds of embellishments.  It's kind of fun to make and very comfortable to wear.

new piece coming together

Hi everyone,
It's been a while due to some severe migraines.  Anyone out there also a migraineur?  Wew--they really do take your breath away.  You know people say childbirth is the worst pain, but I gave birth without painkillers and with pitocin (sp?) and I gotta say, some of my migraines are worse.  But enough complaining.  I am back to work and so happy to be here.  I want to show a piece that evolved from the 100-day challenge. it's just a quick scan, as I haven't had time yet to get it photographed, but I hope you all get the idea.
The piece started as a photograph, which I printed onto fabric, embroidered, quilted, painted, wrote on and beaded.  I have an idea for a whole series like this, but we will see what come of it.

Below are a few of my jewelry pieces.  I will be dropping a few off at the Store @ the deCordova Museum and Sculpture Park.  For anyone in the Boston area, that is a fabulous museum!

The Art Deco Pins go along the "backlace" (i.e., necklace worn on the back) I made to collaborate with fashion designer Maya Meirav.  The dress and backlace are now sold separately, but you can wear the backlace on the back or in the front by using the pins, whereas with the dress, it was sewn in.

100 FINALLY!

So, here are the last seven of my 100-day challenge.  They are rougher and less time-consuming than a lot of the others, but I think that is because I want to start working on a lot of the ideas and sketches that evolved as these 100 days passed.  In all of these last seven, I used a watercolor under-wash behind quick ink lines or sketches.  Again, I played with ideas inspired by Klimt, but also just let the pen wander where it would.  In the last two, I glued some scraps from the painted pages onto the bases.  All in all, this has been an enlightening experience and just makes me want to explore different lines and textures all the more.

a few more scribbles!

Day 82: Again playing around with the idea of Home Sweet Home

Day 83: I had just bought some new pens and was playing with
them and colored pencils.

Day 84: Exploration of spirals and perspectives.

Day 85: Playful squiggles

Day86: Another experiment on Home Sweet Home
while playing with different types of drawing strokes.

Day 87: I was tired and was inspired by a small ceramic
piece my daughter had made.
